This five-day workshop is designed for professional psychotherapists and counsellors who have not attended a previous experiential workshop with Richard Erskine. It will be an opportunity to directly experience his skillful application of The Art and Science of Relationship prior to his retirement. The focus of this experiential workshop will be on inquiry, attunement, and involvement in the therapeutic relationship.
Dr. Erskine will emphasize his integrative model of psychotherapy: affective, cognitive, behavioural and physiological within a quality of relationship that is responsive to the participants’ Relational-Needs.
Various methods of working within the therapeutic relationship will be demonstrated and discussed:
- the significance of interpersonal contact;
- phenomenological and historical inquiry;
- affective and developmental attunement;
- therapeutic involvement;
-the distinction between satisfying and responding to Relational-Needs; - modes of empathy in individual and group psychotherapy.
This 5-day experiential workshop is for mental health professionals who want to learn the skills of working developmentally and relationally in their therapeutic practice and to enhance their effectiveness through identifying aspects of their own relational-disruptions, life script, and countertransference. Dr. Erskine will do live therapy with some of the members of the group.
He will then discuss the theory and methods used in the live therapy.
